Meditation – “Beware the Leaven…”

“Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod.” – Mark 8:15

Beware of the centers of power, the people go out to the wilderness for good reason.

Beware of the comforts of tradition, they can serve as an excuse not to think.

Beware of the in-crowd, because they are “in” they lack outside perspective.

Beware of the law, without love it is oppressive.

Beware of greed and the desire for advantage over others, security only makes you more insecure.

Beware of rubbing shoulders with the right people, in saving your life you might lose it.

Beware of dismissing others, all people are a gift from God.

Beware of being “against,” for what you’re against can also be found within you.

Beware of going with the flow, you may drown.

Beware of worldly measures and standards, mustard seeds don’t grow over night.

Beware of the familiar, it’s reassuring but it doesn’t challenge.

Beware of niceties and of politeness, there’s more to life than what meets the eye.

Beware of your heart and of your intentions, they can lead to terrifying places.

Beware of seeking the approval of others, you may lose sight of who God created you to be.

“Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod.”
